Lifeguard Training (ages 16 and older)
Whether you are looking for a summer job or a career as a professional lifeguard, the YMCA of Central Texas' Lifeguard Training will give you the skills you need not only to keep others safe in and around the water but also to help save their lives in the event of an emergency.
Upon successful completion of Lifeguard Training, which includes classroom activities, group discussion and hands-on practice, participants will be certified in:

Demonstrate moderate proficiency of individual and group physical competencies in the water.
The class is a 36 hour course, 8 ½ hours of online training and 27 ½ hours of classroom and hands on training. At the end of the course there is a series of exams that need to be passed with 80% or better and an in water series of unknown scenarios that are pass or fail.
Junior Lifeguard Training (ages 11-15)
The class is similar to the actual lifeguarding course itself. The main difference is it shows youth how to be a secondary or support responder. They will learn CPR, AED and First Aid skills as well as the proper save in the water. At the end of the course there is a series of exams that need to be passed with 80% or better and an in water series of unknown scenarios that are pass or fail. Excellent option for merit badges.
